Daphne Guinness, what pops into the minds of most peoples head when her name is mentioned is of course Fashion Icon, heiress to the Guinness beer fortune, or best friend to the late GREAT Alexander McQueen! But what most don't know about Daphne is that she has an infinity of love for music and the arts. Daphne is not just your average heiress who collects beautiful garments to show off her wealth she is a woman who lives to inspire the masses and a woman who's fully in charge of her artistic power.

SUBWAY LIFE

After a long day you would think I would just wanna chill out but no not Askia lol. I decided to spend my night out on the town and party with the guys. My outfit for the night consisted of my famous wide brim hat I wear all the time and this " Braking Bad " tee I got from Hot Topic and also the black suspenders, also wore these fitted tailored black above the ankle slacks from H&M and suede creepers I got from Junkman's daughter.....

GIVENCHY SPRING 2014 MENSWEAR

As I cry writing this post about Givenchy Spring 2014 menswear collection. Everyone who knows me knows I LOVE GIVENCHY!!! It's crazy how I was falling out of love with Givenchy brand for a little bit, but as soon as I saw a change in their pre-spring collection ( you can also see my post as well for (click the link) Givenchy pre-spring ) I got pulled right back in and it didn't make it any better with this Space-Aztec-Techno-Warrior collection Tisci designed. I was in love with everything from the tribal make-up, to the technology radio that doubled also as print, the different animals on shorts, and the African inspired faces on T-shirts, shorts, and skirts. The patterns and colors in the collection were all traditional Tisci! never straying far from what makes him a great designer and as always staying true to the Givenchy style with this menswear line. Love the inspiration for the collection African styled layering, rugby stripes,  aztec indian like face paint, and the L.A. Boombox beach skateboarder! This is Givenchy at its finest, keeping in line with what makes it such a genius commercial hit in the fashion industry but also something fresh and new!

THE REAL DEAL MOXIIE!!

While attending Kendrick Daye " BUY BYE GREATELECTIC POPUP SHOP!" A good friend of mines ( you can check out an earlier post on his event on my blog click here ) I came across a girl that  immediately caught my eye when entering the room, not knowing she was an artist and also one of the performers of the night at the event. I was more than interested to see what type of music I would hear from her. I actually had come across her Instagram before which is crazy! As  MOXIIE took the floor at the event her and her dancers stole the show! I was totally blown away by her performance and talent she possessed. So you already knew what that meant?! I had to do a feature on Ms. MOXIIE....

FRANKIE MORELLO SS 14 MENSWEAR

Frankie Morello ss 2014 menswear collection to me in my eye's is the best combination of trends for men today without being to over the top, or gender bending, or overly printed and also it was style very well. Morello's models walked the runway in fitted snapbacks and summer skimmer hats (I'm on the hurt for a skimmer hat myself), stripes and food themed tops. I loved the junk food and "EAT VEGANS" prints (I'm a big fan of food lol). The collection had a sense of boyish charm which was evident throughout the collection. Another thing that was evident was the dominate color used navy blue what I call " THE NEW BLACK" combined with red, yellow and grey. I'm definitely loving how designers are not falling off with the trends for men letting use know them like sandals, ankle high tailored pants, and shoe's with no socks or loafers, and prints and patterns.

Vivienne Westwood spring 2014 menswear

Ms. Westwood never fails to amaze me with her collections let alone her mens wear and I Milan Fashion Week Vivienne Westwood gave us her Spring 2014 mens wear called "TRUTH." Simply amazing , it's hard not to love her color-block bold modern Arabic inspired collection which draws on kaftan prints and heavily textured styles. What was more amazing was that the models were styled prefectly head to toe with earth hues like rust and mustard juxtaposed against cool blues and creams, also the British designer pulled inspiration political figure Bradley Manning who allegedly leaked information to WikiLeaks and thats also were the inspiration for"TRUTH" emblazoned in red across his torso came from.

THE CITY LIFE

Today was really summer I felt like I was back in San Diego omg it was so hot, but I started my day off by going to church which was a pretty nice service  and I also ran into a friend of mine from Atlanta Emma J crazy that I ran into her here in New York. After church went for Brunch in Bryant park. As soon as I thought my day was over it was just getting started I was all over the city with friends looking for this Ice cream truck that was giving away free  "Dexter ice cream sandwiches" so excited cause I love ice cream just not that big of fan of chocolate yeah I know.  Later we took a trip to The Standard Hotel over in the Meatpacking District to this rooftop party. I love New York it's always something to do everyday.

HGHSTRNG LOOKBOOK 2014

A few weeks back I talked about a feature on High end Anti-Luxury T-shirt Brand HGHSTRNG. Everyone that knows me knows that I don't usually get into a lot of or even pay any attention to any t-shirt brands, but when you can give me something that comes off fashionable, chic, and something somewhat different I actually start to pay more attention to it and HGHSTRNG gives me just that! I see tone's of the little fashion kids wearing this during fashion week or any fashion event. So I had to  do a feature on the Anti-Luxury Brand.

CONEY ISLAND DREAMER

So word on the street yesterday was the first day of summer. SO today I took full advantage of it cause now a days you can never know when the weather is going to change. My outfit for the day was very beach inspired and also a little 80s as well. I wore this turquoise green hat from Topman and this light blue tank and also some bandana pinkish orangish swimming shorts I got at a vintage shop and I carried an acid washed denim gym bag from American Apparel and wore my high top Adidas.

TOM RYLING SPRING/SUMMER 2014

I guess you can say Tim Ryling's fine arts background came into play with his "That Kid Ain't Crazy; He's a prophet" ss14 collection. He utilize old- school and futuristic materials, and also used bleached and acid washed denim he pulled from his closet. The British Streetwear designer pulled the inspiration for this four look presentation from his travel to the cold British Coast and the bustling port cities of North Africa and gave us a clean but not so simple look which I love.

Joseph Turvey S/S 14

Once again Joseph Turvey returns for a second season for at the East London fashion Presentation with an amazing collection, and this time he is drawing inspiration from Nascar drivers Ethel Mobley and Tim Flock. Turvey gave me what I needed with this scarf like detailed racing pastel strips of block color over the drawn out designs of roses also in different shades of pastels. Even with this avant-garde piece which he pieced with these black and pink stripe pattern shorts. The designer also featured an illustrated piece as an ode to Tim Flocks pet monkey "JOCKO FLOCKO" on the side of this awesome vest. He featured a few mesh cut-outs and tailored joggers, short sets, and a few jackets with floral print. One of my favorite things he added to the collection was the classic shell toe adidas which I love! ( Growing up I was BIG fan of Adidas ) The collection is definitely a sophisticated, soft take on the designers signature sportswear.

XANDER ZHOU SPRING 2014

I just wanna say I love International Mens Fashion week. This is when designers start to think outside of the box when it comes to menswear, they actually give you a lot different looks and not the same old "suit and tie" looks we normally get in collections.  Xander Zhou spring 2014 took us on a futuristic ride with this digital block-coloured tailored gender bender collection ( J.W. Anderson started this last season) , loved everything from the very structured and detailed blazers to the latex tanks and even short set suit. I think the major part of the collection was the pixelated prints, screen grabs of internet search engines and videos.

E. TAUTZ SPRING 2014 MENS WEAR

E. Tautz spring 2014 men collections was amazing. The colors Patrick Grant used were just the right touch with the blues, greens, reds, and oranges. Loved the whole splattered paint like detail on the different robes, coats, and sweaters. The layering of oversize satin silk button ups and printed T-shirts, even the satin shorts layered over a few of the tailored pants. He also included  a few prints/patterns on suits and  shorts. This definitely is a fashionisto  ready- to- wear fashion week collection men can wear at any show.

London Mens Fashion Week 2014 Alexander McQueen Spring Collection

I know I know you guys are saying "Askia why haven't you posted about London men fashion week yet?!!!" I've just been on the go a lot lately and I don't really get home until late but today I will give you a mens fashion week post. Let's talk about Alexander McQueen spring 2014 collection. Creative director Sarah Burton always brings life to the mens collection, loved it all! From the nice tailoring of the suites and the structure of the double-breasted jackets, to the lace pieces like tanks, full suits, and even the different prints that were used. I instantly fell in love with the printed suits in the collection from the butterflies, black roses, and  the printed full length blazer coats that stopped just above the knee ( they were almost trench coats) was a nice touch as well as the floral printed one which was actually a trench coat. This collection reminded me of a new modern aged vampire but with a traditional twist. Reasons why I say vampire is because when I watch any of my favorite vampire movies they are always so well dressed and clean cut, dark but still high-fashion at times which I love and thats pretty much what this castaway collection is all about in my eyes.

Ended my day at the little beach they have Williamsburg and watched the sunset.

Askia Takes On New York: 14th St to The Met

Today I felt real calm and thrifty. So I went with this bandana print like kinda flowery button up which I paired with some washed faded jeans I cut into shorts and also wore some dress show like Dr Martens ,also pieced it with a wool grey brim hat and a vintage massager bag. I enjoyed my day today with a few friends ( John Woody, Jessica Jamie, Aleo Rojas) I met on my first trip to New York City. We walked around Union Square as I took pictures at the Farmers Market of all the fresh fruits and a few of the people there and also buildings . I just felt inspired to take pictures today lol. Next stop was the Metropolitan Museum Of Art (The Met) to see The Punk Chaos of Couture Exhibit . I saw so many British punk inspired pieces like gowns, jackets, pants, etc. From a lot of designers we love today like Alexander McQueen,Vivienne Westwood, Balmain, and Victor and rolf just to name a few. I was in love with the whole exhibit each room had it's own theme which was pretty amazing. We ended our day with some Pink Berry yogurt which I now love.

Calvin Klein 2014 Resort Collection

Francisco Costa collaboration with artist Ellsworth Kelly for the Calvin Klein 2014 resort collection was nothing but GREATNESS! You may remember an earlier collab with the two with recreating a colorblock dress originally made by Kelly in 1952. Costa inspiration for the resort didn't come from the artist paintings this time around, but more from the artist studio itself from the wooden floors, tables and even the artist shoes (which always had paint splattered all over them). The 21 piece collection was nothing but relaxed simplicity shown with variety of tops that bared the midriff paired with floor length and knee high skirts which all were one shade of white, even with some of the more seventies inspired pieces with a few of the flowy pants, and denim wide leg jean and coats and also the fit and the wooden heels with the white, wintergreen, and blue cross over straps and sandals. Costa also touched on a era of when Calvin Klein became a household name with the ultrasuede used for the shirt dress and the long chic winter green coat with matching skirt with white top. Calvin Kleins girl is definitely a evening girl with a little edge if u ask me.

3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2014 Collection

Seeing Lim's 2014 Resort Collection upon 1st glance isn't what you would traditionally think of as a resort collection and on a lot of levels it isn't! Lim as of late is a busy man and so is his target market, women who like to play while they work or work while they play(The Modern Woman). Lim really with this resort collection touched on everything that made his past collections a hit and a continuing mainstay Chic, fun, flirty, and of course modern). The silhouettes, cuts, and fit of a lot of this collection touches on a bit of the 90's chic look that was so famous at one point in time, from the fit of the pants to accessories paired with the collection i.e. small little backpacks(which is just a remake of his hit "Pashli Bag"), the the square heeled strappy sandals, and of course the crop tops this is definitely on trend for the 90's revival movement going on as of late. Lim definitely focused on widening proportions, streamlining, and using his amazing styling that has always catapulted his collections to another level from his superiors. While this is a bit more mature for Lim he's still added hints of fun and pop with those sherbet-hued laser-cut scuba leathers, the fuzzy pom-pom "dandelions" a bomber jacket, flattery prints, and a little farm animal(the last LOL for youth). Phillip is here to stay and that's who this collection embodies! With Lim winning a CFDA Award for the second year running expect even more on the next collection!

My INNER Club Kid

Xerxes from The Movie
300
Shot by Jason Kim
Models-  Jenna Earle & Alena Blohm
for Blackbook Magazine
Designers Prada & Miu Miu
2012 fall collections

A Lot of my followers on different social networks always ask me where I get my inspiration from for some of the outfits I wear. I thought I would touch on a outfit I wore a few weeks back to a good friend of mine's birthday party. The party was called "HARD CANDY" and the theme was "CLUB KID". I love themed parties so I was excited to put together a look. I came with so many looks Beforehand.  I didn't know if I wanted to be colorful, or be avant garde, or do something really punk. I honestly can never make up my mind until last minute before I walk out the door (I usually just say who cares this is how I will look and walk out the door lol). As I was looking up some inspiration I came across a few images of  Xerxes from the movie "300" and came across an editorial called " COLORFUL CLUB KID " in Black Book Magazine shot by Jason Kim. I finally came up with my look I called " The Persian Punk God ", but putting together a look that was inspired by Xerxes was a little to much for me if I wasn't going to change outfits so I combine my two inspirations up with the outfit you see below.

MY TOP 5 BEST DRESSED MEN OF 2013 (STYLE ICON EDITION)

Everyone knows I love men fashion so it was only right that I decide to compile a list of my TOP 5 best dress men of 2013, which in my opinion didn't work out to well (lol) only because I tend to gravitate towards my favorites in fashion and a few other notables. I really wanted to focus on the men that are making waves with their style in the industry within this year. As I narrowed my style choices down I started to notice that many of my choices had similar styles which made my list seem somewhat smaller then I had originally planned. Being the person that I am I took matters into my own hands and came up with a pretty interesting but great top 5. While compiling the list I also came to the conclusion that some of my choices reach weren't just limited to 2013, my choices seem to be all around style icons (I say style icons because these are individuals who bend the laws of fashion and not just in men's fashion but fashion period!. These are individuals that people look up to and pull inspiration from on a daily, their influence is undeniable and that to me translates to a style icon.)
